Description
Fnife Games are a small Ōtautahi-based indie video game studio, focused on creating fun LGBTQIA+ narrative projects. Their core team functions like a collective, combining skills from eclectic artistic backgrounds including graphic design, sculpture, kids TV, bedroom pop and comics to deliver fresh ((queer)) gaming experiences!
History
Fnife Games spawned out of a collective formed by Co-Founders Nate Tamblyn and Thomas Barrer, and their creative collaborators. Originally teaming up to make music videos for indie bedroom pop act “Pickle Darling” in 2018, this collaboration soon transmogrified into the radical desire to make accessible interactive experiences through a queer artistic lens.
The drive to make validating LGBTQIA+ games (and the need for an annoying, semi SEO-friendly name) ultimately led to the official founding of “Fnife Games” in May 2022. With support from the New Zealand Film Commission and the New Zealand Centre of Digital Excellence, Fnife have been able to journey into the world of indie game development with a focus on making entertaining narrative projects that centre queer characters and themes.
